Introduction
Hivemapper is a decentralized mapping network that lets anyone help create a global map just by driving. Rather than relying on companies like Google to collect mapping data, Hivemapper allows everyday drivers to contribute by using a dashcam (BEE).
A dashcam records street-level imagery as the driver drives, which is automatically uploaded to Hivemapper. Contributors are rewarded with HONEY tokens in return for their contributions.
Hivemapper is different because it is built by the community, not a single company like Google. And as more people contribute, the map becomes more complete and updated. Just imagine turning your commute into a way to earn rewards and contribute to something useful for navigation, city planning, and even delivery services.
Just plug in the dashcam, then drive. You don’t need to be tech-savvy to join, the system will handle the rest.
Key Features
Drive and Earn
You earn HONEY tokens just by driving with a Hivemapper dashcam. As you connect fresh map data, the system rewards you automatically, turning your regular trips into something valuable.
Community-Powered Mapping
Instead of relying on one company to map the world, Hivemapper is built by people everywhere. This means the map is always growing and getting updated with real-world data from everyday drivers.
Easy to Use
No technical skills needed. Once your dashcam is installed and connected, it works in the background. Just drive like you normally do, and the system uploads your footage automatically.
Up-to-Date Maps
Because data comes in from drivers every day, Hivemapper offers more current and accurate street views than traditional maps. It’s constantly refreshing as new areas are captured.
Privacy-Focused
Faces and license plates are automatically blurred to protect privacy, so contributors can feel safe sharing what their dashcam records.
Earn More by Exploring
The system gives extra rewards for mapping less-covered areas, encouraging people to explore new routes and places that still need mapping.
How It Works
Using Hivemapper is pretty straightforward. You start by getting a Hivemapper-compatible dashcam (BEE) and installing it in your car. Once it’s set up, just connect it to the Hivemapper app, and you’re ready to go.
Whether you are on your daily route, a road trip, or just a quick errand, the dashcam captures street-level imagery. And that data is automatically uploaded to the Hivemapper network as long as you are connected to the internet.
You don’t have to do anything else. The system takes care of the processing, and you earn HONEY tokens as a reward for helping build and update the global map. The more useful and rare your contributions are, the more you can earn.
Why It Matters (for Solana Users)
Hivemapper is an exciting project for the Solana community because it brings real-world utility to the blockchain. It’s not just another DeFi or NFT app. It’s building something physical and useful, a decentralized map of the world.
And it runs on Solana, meaning all the data uploads, token rewards, and interactions are fast and low-cost. For stakers and holders of HONEY, this opens up a growing use case tied directly to real-world activity.
For Solana traders and explorers, Hivemapper shows how blockchain tech can move beyond digital finance. It’s a great example of a project that uses Solana’s speed and scalability to reward users in a real-world economy.
As more people contribute to the map, demand for the HONEY token could increase, making it an asset to watch. It’s a way for Solana users to support and benefit from a network that’s being built with real cars, on real roads, every day.
How to Use It
Getting started with Hivemapper is simple, even if you’re new to crypto or mapping. Here’s how you can join:
Buy a Hivemapper Dashcam

Hivemapper Dashcam
Visit the official Hivemapper website and order the approved dashcam. This device is designed to capture high-quality street-level footage while you drive.
Install the Dashcam in Your Car
Mount the dashcam on your windshield and plug it into your car’s power. It’s easy to set, and there are guides to help if you need them.
There are four approved mount positions:
- Interior Forward Facing
- Exterior Forward Facing
- Interior Side Facing
- Exterior Side Facing
Though forward-facing is the most recommended.
Download the Hivemapper App
Install the Hivemapper app on your phone. This is where you’ll connect your dashcam, track your contributions, and see your rewards.
Your phone will automatically pair to your Dashcam when you come into the Wi-Fi signal range. But some phones require manual pairing. You can just open your Hivemapper app, and select ‘Connect Dashcam Wi-Fi’ on the dashcam tab.
Start Driving
Just go about your normal routes. The dashcam will automatically capture and upload imagery when you’re connected to Wi-Fi.
Earn HONEY Tokens

Hivemapper Earn HONEY
As your footage is uploaded and verified, you’ll earn HONEY tokens as a reward. You can track your earnings in the app.
Explore More for Bonus Rewards
Drive in areas with little map coverage to earn extra rewards. The system encourages exploring new roads and regions.
That’s it! Drive, upload, earn, and help build the world’s next-generation map.
Milestones
The Early Idea
2015Hivemapper originally started as a mapping software company, helping businesses use drone imagery to build 3D maps. This early version focused more on enterprise use cases.
Pivot to a Decentralized Network
2021The team shifted gears and began building a decentralized global mapping network powered by everyday drivers. This marked the beginning of the Hivemapper we know today.
HONEY Token Launch and Dashcam Preorders
2022Hivemapper launched the HONEY token on the Solana blockchain and opened preorders for its custom-built dashcams, signalling its move into the Web3 world.
Mainnet and Dashcam Shipping
2022In late 2022 and throughout 2023, Hivemapper shipped dashcams to users globally. The network officially went live, and users began earning HONEY for contributing map data.
Rapid Network Growth
2024The Hivemapper network saw major growth in contributors, especially across North America, Europe, and parts of Asia. More features were added to the app, and data coverage expanded rapidly.
Focus on Quality and Map Tool
2025In 2025, Hivemapper shifted focus toward improving data quality and providing better tools for contributors and map users. New updates are also aimed at expanding into under-mapped regions.
